Bleeding Cooling Systems
  Bleeding Cooling Systems
Here is a tip for bleeding your cooling system after replacing any coolant components, including the thermostat. (After any coolant system repair the thermostat should be replaced, it is a wear item and in most cases inexpensive.)

Trapped air causes hot spots and is not easily removed in some cases.
Put a little aspirin tablet in the thermostat to hold it slightly open. If the thermostat sits vertically, place the aspirin tablet at 12 o'clock.

Follow your car manufacturer's instructions for bleeding procedures. The aspirin will allow air to escape and will dissolve in the cooling system, causing no harm. Normal aspirin works the best.
